Maureen M. Mercier - Artist
Maureen Mercier is an artist whose work is centered on themes of womanhood and motherhood. She evokes strength, confidence, and empathy through her work in sculpture and mixed media, utilizing
materials ranging from fibers to cast metal. Her use of these contrasting materials symbolizes the diverse pressures we balance in our lives.
Maureen draws artistic inspiration from her own lived experience as a woman and mother and from nature and her community. She also has more than two decades of experience as a licensed massage therapist. This work has further influenced her artistic endeavors celebrating the power of the female body.
Maureen received her B.A. in Studio Arts with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This formal education strengthened her commitment to develop a creative practice celebrating the strength, beauty, joy, and resilience of women.
You can find Maureen’s work in various exhibitions throughout the region. Her work entitled La Femme was selected as “Best in Show-Students” for the Critters exhibition at the Artless Bastard in December 2018. Her work entitled Rarely Aggressive was voted “Best in Show-Overall” in The Witching Hour exhibition, showcased at the Artless Bastard in October 2019. She also received the “Outstanding Artwork Award” from The Wisconsin Visual Artists Northeast Chapter in April 2019.
Maureen lives in Northern Door County, Wisconsin’s northeastern peninsula, with her husband, two sons, one happy dog, and two curious kittens. She shares her passion for art through volunteering at a local art school, and enjoys contributing her time and creativity to the activities her children are involved with. She is grateful to live in a community that supports the arts and is surrounded by natural beauty. Maureen enjoys traveling, taking classes, listening to music, and walking her dog in the woods.
